robert planting

March 21 2012 Robert has been planting lots of spring crops. These are the seeds that can handle a little frost when the colder temperatures return.

He is working on expanding our planting area today. In order to expand the planting area we need to fence it. We also plan on improving the current fencing. Robert is creating fence posts using branches from the woods on our farm land. This helps keep down costs but also is more sustainable since no machines or transporation were used in producing the posts.

Our seedlings are already starting to come up. This always bring a smile to our face and makes the physical labor worth the effort.

horse

March 18 2012 we are learning how to ride a horse. We are taking lessons at a local horse farm in Hudson. The horse is an Arabian breed. He is 15 hands. They are a strong breed and can go long distances.

Our goal is to eventually want to use them in our farming. We have been talking about it for years and decided it was time to put our dream into action.

The first lesson in riding was enjoyable and challenging. Riding takes full concentration and confidence. We are learning how to communicated with a horse through body language. Robert was a natural when it came to posture. I have realized that riding is an amazing form of art and skill.

March 4 2012 the new season is beginning. We are working on hotboxes made from old window frames and wood. This is a photo of our bunny, Mopsy. He is an American Chinchilla who helps provide nitrogren rich fertilizer. The bunnies provide us with amusing entertainment and antics in the winter months. They also love company and having anyone pet their noses. They can't wait for more fresh greens to eat.
